ACTSSL Annual Academic Sessions 2025 to Feature Groundbreaking Discussions and Workshops

Colombo, January 10-12, 2025 — The Association of Cardiothoracic and Thoracic Surgeons of Sri Lanka (ACTSSL) is set to host its Annual Academic Sessions 2025 at the Grand Ballroom of Waters Edge, Battaramulla. The event will feature a series of high-profile lectures, discussions, and workshops aimed at advancing the field of cardiothoracic surgery.

Major Events to Look Forward To:
 

• January 10, 2025 (Inauguration):
  The sessions will open with a ceremonial inauguration featuring a keynote address by Professor David Taggart of the University of Oxford, highlighting innovations in optimizing conduits for coronary artery bypass grafts (CABGs).

• Day 1 (January 11, 2025):
   

  • A keynote on the history of cardiac surgery by Mr. Nihal Kulatilaka.
  • Key plenary sessions on establishing cardiac transplant programs (Dr. Catherine Sudarshan), pulmonary endarterectomy (Dr. Rakesh Seetharam), and CABGs in patients with impaired ventricular function (Prof. David Taggart).
  • Workshops and discussions on mitral valve repair techniques and advancements in thoracic surgery.

• Day 2 (January 12, 2025):

  • A breakfast session on the role of Point-of-Care Testing (POCT) in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery, presented by Dr. Lisa Braganza.
  • A symposium on congenital cardiac surgery featuring talks on airway surgery in pediatric populations and the evolution of arterial shunts.
  • Plenaries on critical topics such as TAVR (transcatheter aortic valve replacement), financial challenges in cardiac surgical care, and data management in surgery.
  • A focused panel discussion on preventive aspects of ischemic heart disease, including diabetes, lipid management, and nutritional care in cardiac surgery.

The event will conclude with panel discussions, free paper sessions, and remarks summarizing the key takeaways.
