The Association of Cardiothoracic and Thoracic Surgeons of Sri Lanka (ACTSSL), in partnership with Lanka Hospitals, will host an insightful Doctor’s Precongress Workshop on January 5, 2025. This full-day event, scheduled from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the Lanka Hospitals Auditorium in Colombo, promises to provide a platform for knowledge-sharing and skill enhancement in cardiothoracic and thoracic care.

The workshop will begin with the ceremonial lighting of the traditional oil lamp, followed by a welcome speech by Dr. Muditha Lansakkara, President of ACTSSL, and Mr. Deepthi Lokuarachchi, CEO of Lanka Hospitals. They are expected to highlight the significance of continued professional development in advancing healthcare standards.

The program will feature a series of expert-led sessions addressing key topics in cardiac and thoracic health. Dr. Ruvan Ekanayake will deliver the opening session on exercise as “The Life Giver,” emphasizing its role in cardiovascular wellness.

Dr. Aruni Silva will follow with a discussion on the impact of fats and oils on nutrition, providing valuable dietary insights for cardiac patients.

Later in the morning, Dr. K. Ranatunga will speak on the prevention and management of Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) in cardiac patients, a critical area in perioperative care. Prof. Senani Williams will present an important lecture on coagulopathy, an essential consideration in managing surgical patients.

Following a tea break, the workshop will resume with presentations by Dr. Gotabhaya Ranasinghe on antiplatelet therapy and Dr. Bhathiya Ranasinghe on antihypertensives, both of which will explore evidence-based approaches to pharmacological management. A practical session on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) by Dr. Dimuthu Gunasena is expected to equip participants with essential life-saving techniques.

The afternoon sessions will cover diverse topics, including anticoagulation with warfarin, stroke management, and the relationship between sexual health and the heart. Dr. Kavinda Rajapakse will focus on managing infected wounds, while Dr. Dhammika Rasnayake will conclude the sessions with a lecture on intercostal drain management.

The event will conclude with the distribution of certificates and closing remarks, followed by tea. This workshop is anticipated to be an invaluable opportunity for medical professionals to enhance their expertise and improve patient care in cardiothoracic surgery.
